Skyline football advances to state final

November 30, 2010

Rahmel Dockery and the Curtis Vikings had Skyline’s number in the first half of their 4A state semifinal match-up at the Tacoma Dome Nov. 27.
The undefeated Vikings of University Place were ready to depose the perennial champion in a rematch of the 2009 state quarterfinal. And by the way Dockery and his team performed, and with the mistakes Skyline made from the onset, it looked like Curtis would run away with a victory.

Williams and the No. 1 Spartans (11-1) got out to a sloppy start in the state quarterfinal match-up, and even trailed 21-14 at halftime.
But he managed to cap two key scoring drives in the fourth quarter to help Skyline rally past the hosting Issaquah Eagles (9-3).
Skyline won 42-21 to advance to the semifinals against undefeated Curtis Nov. 27 at the Tacoma Dome.
“We knew what we were up against,” Williams said of the tough Issaquah team. “(But) we came out with the Skyline swagger.”

Skyline football takes KingCo title

November 2, 2010

From the beginning of the game Oct. 29, Kasen Williams knew he would have to make some key plays to beat Bothell and get the KingCo 4A title back.
The University of Washington-bound senior receiver did just that on parent’s night at Spartan Stadium. Not only did he and sophomore quarterback Max Browne connect for three touchdown passes, but Williams stepped up big on defense throughout and killed Bothell’s chances down the stretch on a takeaway.

Skyline

The fact that Skyline sophomore quarterback Max Browne has some big shoes to fill might be a gross understatement. But he and his teammates aren’t letting the fact that three-time state champ Jake Heaps isn’t here to lead the team to another title get to them.
And even though Skyline lost a handful of its core varsity squad to graduation, Browne and the Spartans carried over their energy from the 2009 championship season with the same goal in mind — make it to the Tacoma Dome.
