Eastlake boys, Skyline girls grasp state track trophies

Finishing among the top-four teams and winning a trophy at the Class 4A state track and field championships is a difficult task, but Eastlake and Skyline high schools both had squads that accomplished the feat.
Eastlake’s boys scored 38 points to finish fourth, and Skyline’s girls scored 35 points for fourth, capping their respective seasons in style at Star Track XXXII, May 29-31 at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.

Eastlake track teams open season with strong marks

Kyle Suver’s victory in the 1,600 meters against Newport March 27 was an even bigger achievement than it appeared at first glance.

The Eastlake High School senior broke away on the last lap and won the one-mile race in 4 minutes, 42 seconds during the season’s first Class 4A KingCo Conference meet at Eastlake.

Plateau athletes take to the podium at state track meet

As the Skyline High School 4×400-meter relay team of Dorie Dalzell, Maria Volodkevich, Alex Daugherty and Kaylie Greninger huddled before the last race of the state track meet, the message was clear – the girls were more than teammates. They were family.

“We’re such a tight-knit team, so we said, ‘Do it for the family,’ before the race,” Daugherty said. “We are so fortunate to have each other.” Read more

Skyline, Eastlake track teams do well in district meet

Plateau athletes had a solid showing at the bi-district track meeet championships May 17 at Lake Stevens High School.

The Eastlake boys had the best team showing taking third while Skyline boys were fourth.

Despite loss, Eastlake track showing promise

The Eastlake track and field team was edged out by the visiting Redmond team April 18, but it wasn’t rattled by the score, or the rain.

“If we win, fine. If we don’t win it, we aren’t going to lose sleep over it,” said Steve Jones, head coach of the Eastlake Wolves.

Eastlake, Skyline athletes have big performances at state meet

Skyline High School runner Alex Daugherty surprised herself, finishing third in the girls 400-meter dash in 57.68 seconds.

“I wasn’t expecting to make it out of league,” she said, crediting her coach Greg Dalzell for helping her drop four seconds off her time. “I was running 61s this year, and I’m at 57 seconds now.”

Runners from both plateau schools head to state meet

After two days of battling it out with 19 other teams at the bi-district track meet May 16 and 18 Eastlake and Skyline emerged with several athletes still in the post-season running.

Contenders in each event in Marysville had to place in the top five to advance to the upcoming 4A Track and Field State Championships. The Eastlake Wolves are sending six individuals and one relay team to the statewide meet in Tacoma May 24-26. Representing the Skyline Spartans will be nine individuals and three relay teams. Eastlake track team tops Inglemoor

The grounds at Eastlake High School were buzzing with runners, jumpers and throwers on the overcast afternoon of April 12 when the Eastlake track and field team hosted the Inglemoor Vikings.

The Eastlake Wolves varsity men’s team bested the Vikings with strong showings across the board of events.

“Overall I was real pleased with what the kids did,” said head coach Steve Jones.

Eastlake’s Haley O’Connor runs with quiet confidence

Based on her recent performance at the state 4A track meet, you wouldn’t know that Haley O’Connor spent most of her junior year recovering from a stress fracture in her back.

“I had a good season,” she humbly said June 1. “It was a lot of work.”

Plateau runners, jumpers, throwers heading to state

May 24, 2011

Once again, Skyline’s Kasen Williams is headed to the state track tournament in three events. Williams won the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches) and triple jump (45-05) May 19 and took second in the long jump (22-01.25) May 20 at the 4A Bi-District Championships in Marysville.

He helped the Spartan boys place fifth overall with 55 points. Arlington won the meet with 74 points and Eastlake tied for 16th overall with 10 points. The Skyline girls placed seventh with 40.2 points and Eastlake scored 22 points to tie for 14th. Inglemoor won the girls meet with 82 points. Read more
