Eastlake student, 16, killed in collision Aug. 24

Taylor Griffith, a 16-year-old student at Eastlake High School, was killed Aug. 24 when his truck collided head-on with another vehicle on state Route 202.

Griffith was traveling eastbound on SR 202 near 244th Avenue Northeast shortly before 9 p.m. when his truck, a 2004 Dodge Dakota, struck a 2004 Ford Explorer traveling in the westbound lanes.

Griffith was pronounced dead at the scene, as was Steve Harris, the driver of of the Explorer sport-utility vehicle. Harris is a former police chief for the city of Redmond, KIRO-7 TV reported. His wife, Margaret, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she was reportedly in critical condition.

A third vehicle was also involved in the crash. The driver, 68-year-old Chi Tran, sustained minor injuries, the Washington State Patrol reported.

WSP is investigating the cause of the crash, including whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
