Sammamish is searching for a new director of development, after Kamuron Gurol left to become City Manager in Burien last month.
The hiring decision is entirely in the hands of City Manager Ben Yazici. However, members of the City Council typically sit in on the interview panel.
Councilmembers Don Gerend and Kathleen Huckabay will be part of the panels for the new development director.
The position is significant. The director of development leads a department that oversees planning, zoning and other land-use regulations in the city, along with a host of other responsibilities. The department ultimately decides whether or not proposed new developments meet city regulations.
Yazici said he wants to have a new development director hired “yesterday,” but he does not want to hurry the process, either.
The city has hired Pete Butkus, former deputy city manager, to act as an interim director.
