SAMMI awards foundation announces 2014 winners

The SAMMI Awards foundation announced the 2104 winners of the annual SAMMI awards Feb. 28. Honorees attended a reception at City Hall and met with members of the foundation’s board of directors.

Community members submitted more than 90 nominations. Qualified nominees proceeded through a vetting process culminating with a personal interview conducted by an independent judging panel composed of community leaders, business professionals and SAMMI winners from past years.

The awardees will be formally honored during a ceremony at 6 p.m. March 28 at Skyline High School. The event is free and open to the public. It will feature stories of why each person was honored and a performance by Skyline High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble.

The winners by category are:

Environmental Stewardship: Erica Tiliacos, Wally Pereyra, Ann Precup and Stephanie Hibner.

Youth Spirit: Sara Baumert, Justin McOmber, Chirag Vedullapalli and Amol Garg.

Circle of Service: Kathie Jorgensen, C.J. Kahler and David Misakian.

Community Spirit: C.J. Kahler, Jan Bennett and Vicki Hoffman (posthumous).

Courage: Father Kevin Duggan and Mary, Queen of Peace Church, Don Pattee and the Schrier Family.

Founder’s Award: Dawn Sanders
