Eastlake principal Brad Malloy resigns
February 19, 2014
Eastlake High School Principal Brad Malloy resigned Feb. 11. In a letter to the Eastlake community, he cited “personal reasons” for his abrupt departure.
Lake Washington School District officials are developing plans for dealing with the resignation. Kathryn Reith, a district spokeswoman, said the district will develop a plan for hiring an interim principal, and for the selection of a new principal, likely by late next week.
While some rumors swirled about Malloy’s mid-year departure, Superintendent Traci Pierce, in a letter to the Eastlake community tried to put those rumors to rest.
“The message that Brad decided to resign from his position in the district for personal reasons is in fact the whole story. This is truly the case in this situation.
I acknowledge that this decision and announcement was sudden, and it is unusual for an administrator to resign mid-year. I know that “personal reasons” does not provide detailed information to parents; however, as an employer, we want to honor and respect Brad’s wish and right for privacy,” Pierce wrote
Ken Lyon, director of school support for the Eastlake Learning Community, was at the school Feb. 11 to meet with the administrative team and discuss communication and support plans for staff, parents and students, Reith said.
The district hopes to release that plan by the end of the week.
