Steve was the head tennis pro and manager of the Robinswood Tennis Center in Bellevue for 26 years and later worked as an enterprise division manager in the Bellevue Parks and Recreation Department. Steve passed away at home in Sammamish with his family around him on Nov. 10, 2013.

His life will be commemorated at a service in Plymouth Church in Seattle on Nov. 23, 2013, at 2 p.m.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mary Hyatt Doerrer, son Cameron Doerrer and wife Louise and daughter Ashley Doerrer. He has one grandson, Benjamin. His two sisters Judy Winston (Walt) and Mary Roberts (Mike) live in the area and one brother Paul Doerrer (Cay) lives in St. Louis. He leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his family, he will be missed by all who knew him.

Steve was recognized as a leader and innovator in many aspects of tennis recreation, particularly in neighborhood and disability programming. Outside of work, his friends and family were often drawn into one of Steve’s questions about how to approach the challenges of inequality.

He was a man full of curiosity who loved to observe and learn from a diversity of communities.
