Christopher Leighton ‘Duke’ Shibley
September 12, 2013
Christopher Leighton “Duke” Shibley, beloved son of Mary and David Shibley, left this earth on Aug. 8, 2013, at the age of 28.
Duke was taken from us before he had a chance to blossom into his true potential. He will always be remembered for his tender smile, his wry sense of humor, and his love for his friends and family. He was a true individual. Duke adored animals, especially his dog Cody. His sweet nature was most evidenced by is gentleness towards all living creatures and people who were less fortunate and more vulnerable than he. Duke was a prolific doodler and sketched constantly, often capturing the irony of life around him in a most lighthearted way.
Duke was an avid lover of philosophy, which led him into numerous conversations that allowed him to process his ideas. He always kept a journal to chronicle his thoughts and perspectives about the life around him and shared the entries in his journal when discussing those ideas and beliefs.
Duke was loved deeply by all those fortunate enough to know him.
Duke is survived by his parents David L. Shibley, of Los Angeles, and Mary I. Shibley, of Sammamish; a sister, Mallorie Irene Shibley; his fiancé Liz Wixted; his aunts Michele Shibley/McGrath, of Ipswich, Mass., Kathryn Huggins, of Issaquah, an uncle, John A. Huggins, of Tualatin, Ore.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss him through eternity.
A memorial to Duke’s life will be held Sept. 20, at MacDonald Park’s “Tolt Barn,” 31020 N.E. 40th St., Carnation, at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to Seattle Children’s Hospital Foundation, P.O.
