One-term City Councilman John James has announced he will not run for re-election this year.
“I’ve decided to maybe pursue something different,” James said.
James said he is considering a run for the Seattle Ports Commission, but he stressed he is not formally announcing a run.
He noted that ports commission meetings take place during the day, which might be a problem with his work.
“I do have a day job,” James said.
He said he is in discussion with his employer, Coldwell Banker, about whether or not something could work.
James noted several seats on the commission will be on the ballot this year. However, if he does run, he’s not sure it would be this time around, James said.
“It might be this time, but maybe it’s in the future,” he said.
James had filed paperwork with the state’s Public Disclosure Commission for his City Council seat, but said he did that for, essentially, bookkeeping purposes. He said he would not be filing the necessary paperwork with the county.
