Doug Eglington, Sammamish’ representative on the Lake Washington School Board since before Sammamish actually existed, has announced he does not plan to run for re-election.

“It’s time for a change,” he said in a statement released by the school district. “I will miss working with my fellow school board members but am confident Lake Washington School District is in good hands.”

Eglington is staying on the board through the end of his term this year. His seat will appear on the ballot in November.

His retirement means the seat representing Sammamish on the Lake Washington School Board will be open for the first time in 24 years.

Eglington was appointed to the school board in 1989, 10 years before Sammamish incorporated. He had worked as a policy analyst for King County Office of Business Relations and Economic Development before retiring about two years ago.
