Skyline junior Evan McAuley, a member of the junior men’s curling team for Granite Curling Club of Seattle, represented Washington State earlier this month at nationals, where he and his team won the silver medal.

The team went 8-6 at the USA Curling Junior National Championships, held in Wayland, Mass. Jan. 26 to Feb. 2.

For McAuley and his teammates, Jake Vukich and Nicholas Connoly, of Seattle, and Luc Violette, of Granite Falls, this was their first appearance in the gold medal match.

To get there, they staged a comeback in the second half of the semifinal game to beat out Pennsylvania. Washington eventually lost to Korey Dropkin’s High Performance Team and took second place.

To qualify for nationals, the Granite Curling Club team won the Washington State Championships, which were held Dec. 27 through Dec. 30.
