Good reasons to attend Health & Safety Fair
January 31, 2013
Save the date! The annual Issaquah/Sammamish Health & Safety Fair has a whole lot of reasons why you and your family should plan to attend, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at Pickering Barn.
Perhaps you’ve been meaning to get your family more emergency prepared. There is still time this year for a big winter storm to knock out power for days on end. Will you be ready? The Sammamish Citizen Corps will be at the fair with timely information to help you get started.
Eastside Fire & Rescue staff will also be on hand with great take home materials on fire prevention and their CPR classes.
Bring your children along to get them fingerprinted. It’s an important file to have, just in case they are lost or kidnapped.
Free health screenings are a big draw for attendees of the health fair. There are the typical blood pressure, bone density and blood sugar tests, but you can also get checked for foot or posture issues. Seniors can take a quick memory test or ask a doc about neuropathy (numbness) in legs and feet.
Did you know that vision problems could be related to learning disabilities? Or that a dentist might be able to help with sleep apnea issues?
Here’s your chance to talk directly with health care professionals from most known area clinics, many local dentists, nurses, psychologists, chiropractors, assisted living housing specialists, eye doctors, dermatologists, physical therapists and even an acupuncturist.
Whether you want information or want an opportunity to meet your next health professional in person, the health fair is the place.
Best of all, it’s free! Admission, kids’ fingerprints, health screenings and even chair massages are all offered at no cost. Just to make it more interesting, many of the vendors give you great take-home gifts, from bandages to environmentally friendly shopping bags.
After nearly a decade, the Health & Safety Fair has become a tradition — one that holds a place of special importance in the healthy lifestyles of local residents.
