Road work ahead on 228th Avenue, East Lake Sammamish Parkway

Cracks in the pavement on large portions of 228th Avenue and East Lake Sammamish Parkway will be smoothed over in the coming months.

At their Oct. 17 meeting the Sammamish City Council approved a contract for crack sealing on 228th Avenue from Southeast 32nd Street north to Northeast Inglewood Hill Road and on East Lake Sammamish Parkway from southern city limits north to Inglewood Hill Road.

The city will spend $133,000 on the work, which is designed to extend the lifespan of the pavement and put off potential full-scale replacement work in the future.

It was the perfect exclamation point to a jubilant and historic moment for Eastlake football.

The lights literally went out at Eastlake High School as players celebrated defensive back Sean Macdonald’s fumble recovery with 31.2 seconds left that sealed the victory for the Wolves. Once the power came back on, No. 1-ranked Eastlake rode out the clock as its fans cheered a 28-21 victory — the school’s first ever — over the Spartans, now 5-3 overall and 3-1 in KingCo 4A. Sammamish City Council votes to oppose I-1125

The Sammamish City Council joined a handful of other Eastside cities Oct. 17 in publicly opposing an initiative that would rewrite the rules for tolling roads in the state.

Initiative 1125 would require that legislators be responsible for setting toll rates, require that tolls be the same during rush hour as they are during the middle of the night and unravel plans to run light rail over the Interstate 90 bridge to the Eastside. Read more

Traffic low, slow after 32nd Street barricade removed

Initial traffic counts from Southeast 32nd Street near where the controversial barricade once stood show that the road has much less traffic than was expected at lower-than-average speeds.

But Public Works Director Laura Philpot suggested the City Council wait for traffic patterns to reach equilibrium before looking at additional road improvements or moving onto the next barricade in question – on Northeast 42nd Street between the Hidden Ridge and Timberline neighborhoods. Read more

Forum attracts schools and ports candidates

Candidates for local and regional offices offered prescriptions for counteracting the ailing economy and educating a 21st-century workforce at a forum Thursday.

Organized by The Issaquah Press, sister publication to the Sammamish Review, and moderated by Publisher Debbie Berto, the forum attracted candidates for the Issaquah School Board and Port of Seattle Commission.

The candidates, gathered at the King County Library System headquarters in Issaquah, answered questions in 40-minute sections organized by race. Read more
