A dozen members of the Eastlake band greeted more than 700 Skyline and Eastlake students with a loud, energizing performance Thursday afternoon as the runners arrived at the Eastlake football field one by one, dripping with sweat.
The 5k run was part of the students’ final in their P.E. classes. In order to pass the final, the students were required to complete the 3.1 mile trek that stretched from Skyline to Eastlake in less than 36 minutes.
Tracy Schellberg, the Skyline P.E. instructor, said she got the idea from a similar run that Issaquah High School held for its students. Read more

An open letter to Sammamish City Council
On June 7, the City Council will decide on whether or not to approve a nonconforming short plat development on Southeast 28th Lane near Pine Lake to avoid litigation. Allowing this lot would create a public hazard and liabilities both for the city and the individual council members.
We live on 28th Lane Southeast and there are already safety issues – it is no ordinary city street. It is a narrow, private street with no sidewalks. There are already 14 homes on the street and a lot of traffic. Read more
Sammamish city and school cooperation serves everyone
May 31, 2011
Last week, the Sammamish City Council and Issaquah School Board took time to meet with each other and chat. The full council and full board were all in the same room, discussing issues that matter to their constituents. This kind of interaction is valuable and irreplaceable.
Of course, at the staff level, these interactions happen all the time, as they should. Most issues and communications are ably handled by the administrators who run the city and schools day-to-day. There is, however, nothing quite like letting the policy makers sit around a table and get to know each other and their shared concerns. Read more
