The undefeated Vikings of University Place were ready to depose the perennial champion in a rematch of the 2009 state quarterfinal. And by the way Dockery and his team performed, and with the mistakes Skyline made from the onset, it looked like Curtis would run away with a victory.

Sammamish leaders nervous about new transit allocation system

November 26, 2010

New: Nov. 26, 2:39 p.m.

King County Metro is faced with a gaping budget hole projected over the next several years, and Sammamish Mayor Don Gerend fears cities like Sammamish may bear the brunt of the inevitable cuts in bus routes.

His fears were heightened in recent weeks with the release of a series of recommendations from the Regional Transit Task Force, a group of elected officials, business leaders and transit riders commissioned by King County Executive Dow Constantine to address the deficit, estimated to be more than $1 billion dollars over the next five years. Metro predicts that the expected dip in sales tax revenue, which makes up 62 percent of the agency’s operating revenue, could mean 600,000 fewer service hours between 2012 and 2014. In 2010 Metro operated more than 3.4 million service hours –  meaning there could be about a 17 percent cut. Read more

Consultant was personal friends with member of selection committee

New: Nov. 24, 2:42 p.m.

Measuring the average water level of Lake Sammamish for the benefit of hundreds of waterfront property owners just got quite a bit more expensive.

The city announced Nov. 17 that they would be halting work by an environmental contractor tasked with finding the “ordinary high water mark” for the lake due to concerns that the contractor was a friend of Senior Stormwater Program Engineer Eric LaFrance, who oversaw the project and took part in the selection process for the contract.
“We want to make sure this is squeaky clean,” Deputy City Manager Pete Butkus said. “It’s a very emotional issue for many people and we want to make sure it is technically correct and there’s not anything that would allow someone to question the results.” Read more

A little snow is a great way to get in the holiday spirit. “The horse knows the way, to carry the sleigh, over the drifting snow…” goes the traditional song, often sung before Thanksgiving.
