The recreation center for teens and seniors in the old library building on 228th Avenue is a go.
At their Oct. 19 meeting, the Sammamish City Council officially approved a rental contract with the Boys and Girls Club for the building.
The club will rent the building for $1 a year in exchange for providing after-school and other recreation programs for the community.
The club is also committing $1.5 million to do internal remodels on the building, while the city is on the hook for the approximately $350,000 necessary to build another access road from Inglewood Hill Road to the building.
The lease also states that both the city and club desire a gymnasium to be added to the property, though neither entity is legally bound to do the work.
Daniel Johnson, CEO of the local chapter of the club, said the club is currently doing fundraising for the gym addition, which he estimates would cost $2.5 million.
Parks Director Jessi Richardson said the club is currently applying for permits for the remodel.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the club should be open in summer of 2011.
