A federal grant will fund King County’s monitoring of several streams and creeks in the Sammamish area.

The Environmental Protection Agency awarded nearly $1 million to the county to monitor the health of streams in the Sammamish watershed, which includes Lake Sammamish and all the waterways that drain into it, including Ebright Creek and Pine Lake Creek. Some of the money will go to monitor the Cedar River watershed, southeast of North Bend, as well.

The money will go towards removing invasive plant and animal species from the watershed, improving salmon migration and protecting the waterways from the impacts of development, according to an EPA press release.

The grant is part of $30 million the agency is distributing around the Puget Sound area this year.
