Sammamish council discusses cell tower regulations

Proposed changes to the city’s regulations on cell phone towers raised more questions with City Council members at their July 27 meeting.
The council got their first look at suggested amendments unanimously approved by the Planning Commission after meetings with staff, the public and wireless company representatives.

Reichert, DelBene lead the pack in 8th District race

Less than 100 days before Issaquah and Eastside voters elect a representative to Congress, a high-profile campaign has taken shape as Democrats gun to unseat incumbent Dave Reichert.
Like the 2006 and 2008 contests, the race for the 8th Congressional District — the only Western Washington district represented by a Republican — has attracted outside money and outsized attention. In the latest match-up, Reichert faces Democrat Suzan DelBene, a former Microsoft executive and Medina resident. Read more

Voters in the 5th Legislative District — primarily those in Sammamish, Issaquah, North Bend and Maple Valley areas — face two solid choices in the upcoming primary contest for a state representative. Mail-back ballots for the Aug. 17 primary election will reach voters this week. Voters will choose one candidate, and the top two vote-getters will move on to the general election in November. Greg Reynolds (Sammamish Forum July 7) was correct in saying that the city of Sammamish was formed so that it could create the roadway infrastructure that was not created by King County. However, he was not correct to assume (1) that the job has been done or (2) that the need for open road connections supersedes the need for safe communities. Read more

Vandals do $60,000 in damage to Lake Sammamish buoy

Vandals damaged a county data buoy bobbing in Lake Sammamish in mid-July, and the cash-strapped county might be unable to repair or replace damaged equipment crammed aboard the float.
King County Sheriff’s Office and county environmental officials said suspects flipped the buoy, causing a gap in the weather and water-quality information gathered by the device. Read more
Sammamish hopes to streamline permit process for block parties

The city is hoping changes to their permit system for the use of public property will simplify the process for organizers of community events.
Under the current system events like block parties, fun runs or parades go through the same permitting process as a developer tearing up a sidewalk to install a driveway or a utility installing a sewer line. Read more
Issaquah School and Sammamish officials reach agreement on Skyline fields

Issaquah School Board members voted unanimously to approve a newly negotiated agreement with the city of Sammamish for use of Skyline High School’s turf athletic fields. Read more
City Council approves plan for Sammamish Landing

Sammamish came one step closer to having public beach access to the lake with which it shares a name at the July 20 city council meeting.
By a 5-2 vote the council approved the master plan for Sammamish Landing Park, which will stretch more than half a mile along Lake Sammamish at the north end of the city. Councilmen Tom Odell and John James were the dissenting votes, citing the $6.6 million price tag if it were fully implemented and the lack of parking spaces and public access. Read more
