Traffic calming coming to 2 roads
June 23, 2010
City crews will be out this summer installing traffic calming devices on Northeast 19th Street and likely on Northeast 14th Drive.
Each street is used as a cut-through and has serious problems with excessive speeding.
As a result, each street will have a small traffic circle placed roughly in the center of the problem stretch of road.
There are also likely to be curb bulb-outs and painted shoulders to help narrow the road and raised pedestrian crosswalks to slow traffic further, according to Laura Philpot, city engineer.
Philpot said these are relatively simple projects, and she estimated that each would cost about $70,000 and should be completed this summer.
