Although Brad Malloy seems to have enjoyed the last seven years as principal and associate principal at Lake Washington High School, he also is excited to be Eastlake High School’s newest head administrator, he said.
Malloy, who served as assistant and then associate principal at Eastlake from 1999-2003, will replace the outgoing principal, Greg Schellenberg.
After just one year at Eastlake, Schellenberg recently resigned to accept an administration position in Shanghai, China.
Malloy said he took the position upon the suggestion of Chip Kimball, Lake Washington School District superintendent.
“Kimball said, ‘We’d like you to go back up there,’” Malloy said.
Malloy brings about 15 years of teaching and administrative experience to the job at Eastlake.
He began his career out of college in banking and insurance, but wasn’t fulfilled, he said.
“I wanted to really make a difference and do more with my life,” Malloy said.
He taught middle school special education and social studies for eight years in the Highline School District and came to the Lake Washington School District in 1999.
“I’m about kids, taking them from wherever they are… and helping them move forward,” Malloy said.
The benefits of coming to Eastlake from within the school district, he said, is knowing staff, policies and graduation requirements, among other things.
But “every building has its own culture and climate,” he said.
Malloy starts his job at Eastlake in July.
Five other Lake Washington schools and one Issaquah School District school in Sammamish will see administrative changes this fall, too.
Paul Spoor, assistant principal at Inglewood Junior High, is retiring and Jennifer Lewis, will replace him, according to the Lake Washington School District. Lewis is currently an assistant principal at Finn Hill Junior High.
Brady Howden, current interim assistant principal at Rose Hill Junior High in Redmond, will take the place of McAuliffe Elementary principal Tracey Miller, who is taking a leave of absence.
As Blackwell principal Stephen Bryant is moving to the district’s central office, Mike Anderson, of the Northshore School District, will replace him come August.
Bryant will work as a principal on special assignment in instructional services.
In addition, Bellevue School District’s Sandy Klein will replace Mead principal Shawna Rothaus, who is moving to Lakeview Elementary School in Kirkland.
Justin Blasko, current principal at Samantha Smith Elementary, is leaving to start an administrative job at the Monroe School District.
The Lake Washington School District has yet to fill his position.
Among the shuffling happening in the Issaquah School District, Natalie Fowler will replace outgoing principal Colleen Shields at Cascade Ridge, according to the district.
Fowler worked for the past six years as program assistant at Cougar Ridge and Newcastle Elementary.
