Sammamish tries to pay for a pool

June 1, 2010

With revenue streams drying up, the Sammamish Parks Department is looking at scaling back construction on some planned parks to free up cash for a community-aquatic center.
If Sammamish were to pay for a community-aquatic center, the department would probably hold off on construction at three parks and minimize work at a fourth. Read more

June 1, 2010

By Kathryn Reith

Sammamish 2nd-graders celebrate their local history

June 1, 2010

Michele Petitti had gone back in time. She was wearing a bonnet and bloomers.
Her gloved hand gestured to the sequence of marked-up decades behind her, chapters of Sammamish’s last century.
The City Councilwoman was dressed as a Sammamish resident might have been a century ago, back when people used horses to go from place to place on the plateau.

Coffee stand teaches siblings about business

June 1, 2010

Sammamish residents Ethan and Allison Hines are 9 and 7 years old, but some say they seem destined to have high-powered jobs in business.
The two siblings, currently students at Discovery Elementary School, recently started Lancaster Coffee. It’s a small roadside stand near Southeast 8th Street and 218th Avenue that offers donuts, coffee, tea and hot chocolate to students and passers by. But they didn’t just take supplies from their kitchen and make a few bucks here and there. Their father, Mike Hines, turned their desire to run a lemonade stand into a full-fledged business and economics lesson.
