Skyline falls to league-leading Issaquah

April 29, 2010

New: April 29, 2:11 p.m.

The Skyline Spartans baseball team got off to a slow start against league rival Issaquah April 28. Not only did the rain delay the game start for a half-hour, but an uncharacteristically shaky start for Spartan pitcher Conner Lawhead made for a long day at Skyline stadium.

Sammamish resident, Snoqualmie tribe dedicate a new, handmade canoe

Master carver John Mullen, of Beaver Lake, got choked up as he tried to express his gratitude to those who crafted the Snoqualmie Tribe’s newest canoe.
“I’ve been waiting a long time for this,” he said as he and about 20 others stood in a circle on the beach at Lake Sammamish State Park.
He was proud of the younger carvers, Jacob Mullen and Wayne Graika, who did the brunt of the work. “The spirit was with them.”Snoqualmie Tribe members, family and friends take the new canoe out for a test run on Lake Sammamish April 21. Photo by Christopher Huber

Recreation center needs committee

April 27, 2010

So far, multiple groups have conducted informal polls about what they’d like to see in the center. A better approach would be for a single group to do this, using focus groups and surveys. Read more

Skate park lights will stay on overnight

April 27, 2010

A proposal to shut off lights at the city skate park after 1 a.m. was squashed by the City Council April 19.
Councilman John James asked city staff to look at the issue.
At the April 19 meeting, he said the city was encouraging teenagers to break the restriction on late-night driving by lighting the skate park after midnight.
Jared Lettau, a Bellevue resident who uses the park between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., argued in favor of keeping the park lit.
“I know what it’s like to see the sunset and sunrise on the same night. And it’s pretty cool,” Lettau said. Read more
