Firefighters rescued a 43-year-old mountain biker who was experiencing chest pain at Soaring Eagle Park March 11.
The man’s mountain biking companion had called 911 at 9:13 p.m.
Josie Williams, Eastside Fire & Rescue’s public information officer, said the conditions were less than ideal for a rescue.
“It’s dark out there. It’s raining hard. It was really slick and slippery,” she said. She added that the trails were extremely narrow and flanked by gullies.
But none of that deterred the man’s rescuers. Firefighters strapped on headlamps, marked the trails to avoid getting lost and hiked a mile into the park with oxygen tanks, a stretcher, ropes, blankets and an aid kit.
Williams said the man was still alive and alert when medics transported him and his wife to the Evergreen Hospital.
Firefighters from both EFR and the Redmond Fire Department responded to the call. Emergency medical services calls, like chest pain, make up more than 60 percent of EFR’s calls.
