King County Councilwoman Kathy Lambert has new authority to set the agenda for how the county operates. The councilwoman — whose district includes Issaquah — will serve as chairwoman of the Council Government Accountability and Oversight Committee. Trainer helps 2 women finish their first marathon

Somewhere between mile 16 and mile 18 is when it all hit plateau resident Kris Lang. The first 13 miles of the 2010 Rock N’ Roll Arizona Marathon had gone better than she expected. But she hit the figurative “wall,” overwhelmed with the throbbing pain in her feet. She sat on the curb, took off her shoes and rubbed them for a bit. Read more

Jay J. Hite, of Sammamish, died Jan. 20, in Bellevue. Hite was born March 13, 1961 in St. Paul, Minn. to Edward and Pauline Hite. He was raised in Anchorage, Alaska and graduated from East High School in 1979.
He received his bachelor’s in business administration — economics and Master of Business Administration from the Gonzaga University. Read more

Like the superstar swimmer does before a race, Shieh, a Skyline senior and head of the math club, plugged in his headphones and got in the zone as he prepared his mind for grueling problem solving and tasks that day. Eastlake girls lose to Newport in close game

The Eastlake girls basketball team gave the Knights of Newport a run for their money Jan. 22, but a last-second shot to send it to overtime just missed.
Newport donned all-pink uniforms as it hosted Eastlake for its first Cancer Awareness night.
