Tom Vance concedes

Tom Vance announced he has conceded in his City Council race against John Curley. Curley, the former host of the television show Evening Magazine, will take over the seat being vacated by retiring Councilman Lee Fellinge.

In other races, incumbent Jack Barry looks like he’s haded for defeat. Political newcomer Tom Odell leads Barry by a 58-42 margin.

Incumbent Don Gerend seems set to breeze past challenger michael Rutt. Gerend is ahead 69-31. Once the new council is seated in January, Gerend will be the only remaining member of the original City Council from 1999.

Filling out the City Council races, John James looks to defeat Planning Commisisoner Erica Tiliacos for the seat being vacated by Kathy Huckabay. James is ahead 57-43.

In the race for County Executive, Susan Hutchinson has conceded. County Councilman Dow Constantine will be the next County Executive.

In statewide ballot initiatives, R-71, whcih would affirm the rights of gay and heterosexual senior citizens to enjoy basically the same rights as married heterosexual couples, look to pass with strong support from the Puget Sound region overwhleming opposition from the rest of the state.

I-1033, which would have set a tax cap on governments around the state has been defeated.

Returns for Sammamish and other King County races will be updated today at about 4:30 p.m. and are available on the King County Elections Web site.
