In the capitol’s legislative building, soft white light spilled onto the main lobby’s gray marble floor. A lack of dress code prevailed: adults in suits and ties strode past teenagers in T-shirts and hoodies, sprawled out by a staircase. People sported special interest buttons on their lapels, satchels and book bags for basic education, for gay marriage, for causes reduced to slogans.

A policy war over who gets the bigger chunk of future bus service has broken out in King County. 

Sammamish City Councilwoman Kathy Huckabay wants to make sure the Eastside doesn’t get the short end of the stick. As Samm-amish’s representative on the Suburban Cities Association, she took part in a February letter to the Municipal League of King County that disputed the league’s report on new bus service from King County Metro Transit. Ginger the dog has found a new home

Ginger, the 5-year-old chihuahua who appeared in the March 18 issue of the Sammamish Review, has been adopted and is doing much better, according to Nancy Adelson, whose family had cared for the dog.

Ginger came from a Gold Bar breeding facility where she and other dogs may have been abused, according to the Seattle Humane Society. 

When Adelson and her family accepted Ginger on a temporary basis, the dog would shiver, recede from most human contact and avoid the outdoors. Read more

Sammamish officer fights cancer

Police officers packed into the City Council chambers March 17 to offer support for Deputy Starla Martin. The Sammamish Police officer, and member of the King County Sheriff’s Office, has been diagnosed with breast cancer. 

 
Martin has been with the Sammamish Police for three years.

“This is a new kind of courage that we’re all going to have to pull together,” King County Sheriff Sue Rahr said. Read more

Scouts fight hunger

Members of Scout Pack 551, based at Margaret Mead Elementary, collected more than 1,800 pounds of food as part of a regional effort which collected 11,883 pounds of food to be donated to the Issaquah Food Bank. The two-week effort culminated with donating the food to the Issaquah Food Bank on March 14.

After they hauled bag upon bag of food into the food bank, the boys took a little break.
