Before the City Council approves major policy decisions, it often relies on recommendations from its six citizen advisory committees. Two of those six committees have a change in leadership in 2009:

-Tom Vance will take Erica Tiliacos’ place as chair of the Planning Commission. This seven-person advisory board gives the City Countil recommendations on development regulations and amendments to the city’s comprehensive plan. Vance’s term ends Dec. 31, 2010.

- Robin VanWageningen will take Lauren Hawkins’ place as chair of the Sammamish Youth Board. The seven-person board is comprised of local high school students who try to facilitate relations between the youth community and local government.

They host community service opportunities and teen socials.

In the case of the Parks and Recreation Commission, Hank Klein is the current chair, though that position will be re-appointed to him or another commissioner in the spring.

The Parks and Recreation Commission, an eight-person body with three alternates, advises the City Council on policy decisions related to the city’s parks and recreation services.

Barbara Jirsa remains the chair of the Arts Commission until 2010, while Tom Green remains chair of the Technology Committee indefinitely.

The Arts Commission, a seven-person body, promotes public art in the community and seeks grant funding for that art.

The Technology Committee’s responsibilities include cable television access and all other city technology issues. Mayor Don Gerend sits on the committee with six other citizens.

The Beaver Lake Management District, a five-person body that tracks the environmental conditions of Beaver Lake, does not have a leadership position.
