Lake Washington School Board meetings stream online

Forget driving to Redmond for school board meetings. The Lake Washington School District now streams its board meetings through a live video feed on its Web site.

The district debuted the multimedia feature during its Jan. 26 meeting and will be archiving the full video and audio files from each meeting on the district Web site, said Kathryn Reith, the district’s director of communications. Read more

Rachel Carson elementary celebrates Chinese New Year

Students, teachers and parents lined the hallways of Rachel Carson Elementary Jan. 28 to celebrate the Chinese New Year. They were anticipating the emergence of a fiery dragon from the first-grade wing. Some adults held their cameras poised as children sat cross-legged on the floor and waited for their friends and siblings to parade in front of them.

New elementary school permits are under way

Issaquah School District officials have submitted building permits to the city of Sammamish for the new school building, temporarily called Elementary 15.

School officials still hope to break ground and begin work on the site, on Southeast 16th Street in the Crossings neighborhood at Pine Lake, this spring. Read more

Next month, the mechanical noise of roadwork will bellow along a half-mile strip of East Lake Sammamish Parkway, introducing new pavement and sidewalk. 

Normally, that kind of road construction causes extra pollution in runoff, affecting nearby tributaries and lakes. 

But the parkway project will actually curb pollution flowing into the lake, according to Sammamish’s Senior Transportation Program Engineer Jeff Brauns. Read more
