The Skyline boys and the Eastlake girls cross country teams are the 2008 KingCo 4A champions. 

Although the Redmond girls team finished in first and second place, the Eastlake girls squad brought home the title of best in KingCo 4A. 

Redmond’s Sarah Lord, who finished fifth in state last year, won with a time of 18:34, but Eastlake’s top five finishers earned them the overall victory in 2008. 

The Lady Wolves finished with a 34-second spread. Team-leading Chelsea Orr placed third overall for the girls with a time of 19 minutes 06 seconds and teammate Tasha Lingenbrink came in with a time of 19:12. Megan Batty, Erin Blodnick and Morgan O’Connor finished in 19:14, 19:19 and 19:40 respectively, for Eastlake. Read more

Last Thursday’s boys tennis match against the Woodinville Falcons didn’t quite end the way Eastlake head coach Beth Lehman-Brooks had anticipated.

If Eastlake were to win the match against the well-balanced Falcons, which only had two losses coming into the contest, it would have been with the mid-level singles players, she said. 

Eastlake was trying to bounce back after a 5-4 loss to Roosevelt Oct. 21, where the boys relied upon the last two doubles matches to narrow the margin of victory. 

But after her No. 3, 4 and 5 singles all lost their matches against Woodinville, Lehman-Brooks looked to No. 1 and 2 singles Rodrigo Bandeira and Yuhta Kayama to battle back for the win. Read more

Lambert hears 3rd District budget pain

For King County Councilwoman Kathy Lambert, whose sprawling 3rd District includes Sammamish, the biggest question about budget cuts concerns police services. 

The King County Sheriff’s Office serves all of the rural areas — it provides services to some municipalities under contract, and it has interlocal agreements with others to provide backup response. But King County Executive Ron Sims’ proposed 2009 budget cuts funding for the department. 

“My concern in all areas is the response time for sheriffs,” Lambert said. Read more
