Businesses turn in 3.5 tons in annual recycling event

Sammamish businesses dropped off 101 loads of recyclables, totaling 7,593 pounds on Aug. 13, according to Olympic Environmental Resources, the contractor that ran the event.
The recyclables included:

  • 5,340 pounds of scrap metals and electronic equipment. The metals will be sorted into ferrous (iron based) and non-ferrous metals and made into new products at various manufacturing plants. 
  • 15 computer monitors. This material will be processed and recycled through Ecolights Northwest in Seattle (600 pounds).
  • Nine small TV sets. The TVs will be processed and recycled by Ecolights in Seattle (450 pounds).
  • One large TV set. The TV will be processed and recycled by Ecolights in Seattle (100 pounds).
  • 540 pounds of pallets and scrap wood. This material will be made into siding material through Glacier Recycle, a wood processor in Auburn.
  • 158 fluorescent lights. This material will be processed and recycled through EcoLights Northwest in Seattle (158 pounds).
  • 250 pounds of cardboard. The material will be recycled by Sonoco in Sumner. 
  • 44 pounds of office plastics were collected by Avoco Plastics in Auburn. 
  • 18 toner cartridges. Toner cartridges were delivered to Printer Cartridge Recycling in Auburn and will be refilled and sold as remanufactured toner cartridges (36 pounds).
  • 75 pounds of cellular phones, batteries and peripherals. The equipment was delivered to Printer Cartridge Recycling in Auburn and will be sold as reusable cell phones.
  • Sammamish plans to hold a household recycling event from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 27 at Eastlake High School, and Oct. 18 at Sunny Hills Elementary.
