The Sammamish Majors are tops in the district and now head to the state tournament. hoto by Matt Brown

The Sammamish Majors softball team for 11 and 12-year-old girls are the 2008 District 9 champion.

Held at Centennial Park in Snoqualmie, the district tournament featured six teams facing off June 30-July 6.
The winners qualified for the state tournament in Walla Walla July 12.

Sammamish shut out its first two opponents, but ran into trouble against Issaquah July 3, losing 6-5 in the seventh inning.

Because the tournament was a double elimination draw, Sammamish had a chance to redeem itself.

Sammamish set up a rematch with Issaquah, winning 13-4 July 5.

With identical 4-1 records, the teams then had to face off a third time for the championship.

Sammamish won 8-4.
