The fifth annual Green Festival Celebrating the Mountains to Sound Greenway is June 28-29. The greenway is a 1.4 million-acre scenic and recreation corridor from Puget Sound in Seattle to central Washington, featuring 750,000 acres of public land, 1,600 miles of multipurpose trails and hundreds of lakes, campgrounds, museums and farms.

The two-day festival has more than 25 events in 10 communities along 100 miles of Interstate 90.

Greenway Days offers group hikes, bike rides and community celebrations in addition to its highlight events: The Cowboy Rendezvous in Cle Elum, Greenway Geoteaming Competition at Rattlesnake Lake, Fenders on Front Street Car Show and Cruise in Issaquah and the 100-mile Mountains to Sound Relay from Snoqualmie Pass to Golden Gardens Park in Seattle. Hazel Wolf Wetlands Environmental Restoration Work Party. July 19th, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Hazel Wolf Wetlands (Just off SE Windsor Blvd. in Sammamish).

Come join Cascade Land Conservancy and other volunteers as we clean up and restore parts of the Hazel Wolf Wetlands.

Join other couples on the third Thursday of the month at Sammamish Presbyterian Church for the 10 Great Dates class. This unique program combines fun dates and marriage education skills, giving busy couples an opportunity to build their marriage and enrich their relationship.

Classes

A yoga class is offered at Beaver Lake Lodge, 25101 S.E. 24th St., from 9-10 a.m. Saturdays. All levels of experience and body types are welcome. Go to www.sammamishyoga.com.

The Taiwan School in offers Mandarin classes. Primary classes are 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursdays and intermediate classes are Fridays from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at 1715 228th Ave. S.E. Enrollment is open to ages 5 and up with or without a heritage background.

Youth

Eastlake Summer Cheer Camp. Students in Grades K-9 are invited to learn cheers and a dance routine from the Eastlake High School cheerleaders. Participants will receive cheer camp T-shirts and pom poms.

Eastside Precision Drill Team is seeking new members. The non dance drill team practices weekly on Tuesdays from 6-7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of Redmond Junior High.

Library activities

Read three get one free summer edition students in middle school/junior high and high school, read three books, write three thoughtful reviews and get a prize book free. Forms are available at the Sammamish library and when turned in, are eligible for a monthly prize drawing and entered in the drawing for the grand prize, a laptop computer.

In addition, this year will feature a video book review contest. Teens may shoot a book-themed video, reviews of books, or even book trailers.

They then upload their personal entry into a YouTube account and a panel of five teen services librarians will judge it. More details will be coming this month.

The Sammamish Library’s Mother Daughter Book Club, for daughters ages 9 to 12 and their mothers, meets the last Wednesday night of each month for lively book discussion and treats.

This month’s book is “A Crooked Kind of Perfect” by Linda Urban. 7 p.m. June 25 at the Sammamish Library.

Do you know folks into cosplay (costume play – fans who attend conventions dressed as their idols from video games, Japanese manga and animated films)? Youth Theatre Northwest will be presenting a free class re: how to put together cosplay outfits at 7 p.m. June 26

Come celebrate the forthcoming release of Stephenie Meyer’s Breaking Dawn, the finale in her teen-girl-vampire-epic-love-story series, on July 31 at 3 p.m.

Volunteers needed

The Sammamish Farmers Market needs volunteers. The market is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesdays through Oct. 1 at the Sammamish City Hall Plaza. Volunteers are needed to plan special events, work on the newsletter, help with logistics, organize children’s events and more. The King County Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program needs certified long term care ombudsman volunteers. After completing a four-day training program, visit with residents, take and resolve complaints and advocate for residents.

Eastside Bluebills is a Boeing retiree volunteer organization that strives to provide opportunities for retirees to help others in need and to assist charitable and nonprofit organizations.

LINKS, Looking Into the Needs of Kids in Schools, places community volunteers in the schools of the Lake Washington School District. The Eastside Welcome Club meets the first Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m. in member’s homes and on various days of the month for other activities and outings.
